Surfing in La Union-day 3

I never tried surfing. I am not a good swimmer and yet, I told myself that I’ll do all the activities as long as my braveheart agrees.

The strong waves in La Union hit the shore and attract the sand to dance with it when we arrived in the San Juan Surf Resort.

Luke Landrigan, silver medalist in the Asian Beach games, demonstrated the fundamentals of surfing. Click here to watch the surfing video.

The group of surfers from the Billabong San Juan Surf school assisted each participant. Ida Calumpang of Mabuhay Magazine was the best surfer among the participants.

Since I was shooting the demo, I was one of the last few who bravely faced the blue waters. I was not wearing the proper attire so I was lent a rashguard. It is important to wear the proper attire or else you wend up topless.

After six tries of being washed away ashore, I finally stood up on the surf board. My instructor clapped when he saw me. But the sad thing was, I didn’t have any picture. He told me to try it again but the salty water made me replied, ”No, tama na po. Ang dami ko ng nainom. Ang alat.”

The salty water was part of the challenge. You must not let your fears hinder your goal. Conquering the waves in La Union was such a sweet success. It felt good to stand up on the board and say, YES I DID IT!
