Itinerary 101: Batanes

Who doesn’t want to go to Batanes? Raise your right foot! No one’s raising, right? Because anyone who knows Batanes or anyone who has seen its pictures would surely raise his/her foot, if I’ve asked the other way around. Its captivating beauty is beyond compare.

Located in the northern tip of the Philippines, Batanes is the smallest island province in terms of population. It has only 15,000 inhabitants, as of writing time. However, that number is still declining. This was what Batanes Governor Vicente Gato shared to us during our visit last February. (I’ll share more of our conversation in a separate post).

Frequent readers and lurkers alike might have read my Batanes Diaries entries. I know I haven’t finished them yet. There are so many stories to tell. You’ll know why when you get a chance to step on this extraordinary island.

Anyone who dreams of going there would surely do anything even if it means joining contests online. I tried once, twice and thrice. At the third try, I WON! Try and try until you succeed. I did!

I thank God for this blessing. It made me believe that yes, Dreams do come true. This wouldn’t be possible as well if not for the people who supported me and of course, to South East Asian Airlines for the tickets.

    • http://www.tripadora.com Trip@dora

Thanks Jason! Mag-abang lang ng sale. Pero sana magkaroon ng ibang airline para bumaba yung ticket price.

  • http://www.pinoyadventurista.com/ mervz | pinoyadventurista.com

the sky high ticket price lang talaga para makapunta dyan ang hindrance kaya most Filipinos haven’t been to Batanes… and that includes me! hehehe! :)

    • http://www.tripadora.com Trip@dora

true, Mervz. Kaya nga sumali nalang ako ng contest. hehe. Ang solusyon talaga ay ang pagkakaroon ng ibang airline that would serve that route. abang-abang lang ulit ng sale. hehe :)

nice blog Isa! :) my girlfriend and i have been to Batanes last December 2011 (experienced extreme “winter”!) and we fell in love with everything about the province.

in my opinion, i think it would be better to keep the airfare to this destination sky-high (not promoting the airline here – we had our share of inconveniences – but that’s for another day); cheaper access here would open doors to people who are “dishonest” and “impolite” and “selfish” and “unloving with nature”.

the province’s isolation, in one way or another, fortifies the community’s culture, honesty, trust, and love for nature.

      Thanks ChristianConrad!

You have a point there. The high-priced fare is another way of “keeping the place preserved”. Nonetheless, I think everyone who loves nature and culture deserves to visit Batanes. I just want to return but the fare is preventing me to do so. haha.
